  • 3 large cans pork and beans
  • 2/3 pkg brown sugar
  • 1 c dark Karo syrup
  • 4 or 5 large onions
  • ¼ to ½ c catsup
  • 3 or 4 T liquid smoke
  • 2 lb bacon
  1. Fry bacon in a large skillet until well done; remove from pan and break into pieces.
  2. Drain about half the grease.  Then place chopped onion in pan and fry until tender and golden brown.
  3. Place bacon back into the pan with the onions.
  4. Add Karo syrup, brown sugar, catsup and liquid smoke, heat and stir.
  5. Drain off most of the liquid that is at the top of the can and pour beans into a large pan and pour sauce over the top and stir.
  6. Bake at 350 for 2 hours.  Stir once or twice.
  7. Note:  You can halve this and use one large can (3 pounds 5 ounces) and bake in a 9×13 inch pan.
