- 3 large cans pork and beans
- 2/3 pkg brown sugar
- 1 c dark Karo syrup
- 4 or 5 large onions
- ¼ to ½ c catsup
- 3 or 4 T liquid smoke
- 2 lb bacon
- Fry bacon in a large skillet until well done; remove from pan and break into pieces.
- Drain about half the grease. Then place chopped onion in pan and fry until tender and golden brown.
- Place bacon back into the pan with the onions.
- Add Karo syrup, brown sugar, catsup and liquid smoke, heat and stir.
- Drain off most of the liquid that is at the top of the can and pour beans into a large pan and pour sauce over the top and stir.
- Bake at 350 for 2 hours. Stir once or twice.
- Note: You can halve this and use one large can (3 pounds 5 ounces) and bake in a 9×13 inch pan.
