Beef Mandarin

  • 1 (10oz) pkg frozen Chinese peas with water chestnuts
  • 1 c water
  • 2 T soy sauce
  • 1 lb top round steak
  • 2 T brown sugar
  • 3 T oil
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • ¾ tsp. garlic powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg brown gravy mix
  • Mandarin orange slices
  • 1 (4 ½ oz) can sliced mushrooms, drained
  1. Thaw peas at room temp until they can be separated.  
  2. Cut steak into thin strips (2 x 1/4 in).  
  3. Heat oil in a heavy skillet, add peas & chestnuts & sauté about 2 minutes.  
  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and add steak strips, onion & garlic powder & salt to oil. Brown meat quickly, stirring constantly.  
  5. Sprinkle brown gravy mix on meat & add water, soy sauce & brown sugar.  
  6. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly, till gravy thickens. Stir in mushrooms & peas and heat thru.  
  7. Serve on hot rice & garnish with orange sections. 
  8. Serves 4-6.
